. firefighters battle a four alarm blaze. the fire marshal says the flames spread so quickly, why? a shutdown on part of the freeway for hours, what we've learned about the vehicles involved. after this week's wind storms, homeowners are being warned after the wind is upon.

that was tough to put out. ali arrived on the scene. >> the fire marshal says the fire was tough to put out because this building does not have any sprinklers. it was an older building. it was built before the requirement was put in place that all buildings have sprinklers. this is the first out. they were called here before 4:00 this morning. this is the top part of the residence, it's an apartment and the ground near is an office building. no one was home when this fire happened. the apartment owner was on vacation. it was a scramble to find out whether anybody was trapped in the building. they knew the upper floor was a residence. the inside is it burned out and the building is still standing. let's give you a view of what it looks like from overhead.

this house was damaged and the house next to it also has damage. the flames were able to spread. it was challenging for firefighters to tackle this fire because this building does not have any sprinklers. as we take up outlive, the firefighters are going through the building trying to figure out what may have caused this fire. they don't have a cause of the fire. it may have started on the ground floor or in the basement, but the fire marshal said he has no reason to believe this fire was suspicious in any way, but they're working to figure out the cause. ktvu, channel 2 news. new this morning one man is dead following a vehicle crash on freemont. a man stalled on the freeway before 1:00 this morning. the van was then struck by a corvette. one of the people inside the corvette walked out to direct traffic, but that's when a third vehicle, a white core role la came by hitting and

killing him. the stretch of road was closed for two hours overnight. another deadly crash near devil's slide in san mateo county the. it happened hat 1:30 this morning and the crash happened near the tunnel. they hoped to open the roadway this morning and the patrol said highway 1 will be closed for some time. the western storms were in the west coast and winds are being blamed for damage. one man was electrocuted. another man died while trying to avoid debris. a 52-year-old woman died when part of a tree fell on the parked car she was sitting in. still a lot of people are without power this morning and

many are dealing with a cleanup from the windstorm. dozens of large trees and winds were knocked down by the winds and they are still cleaning it up. >> i thought there was an earthquake. >> i think there are a lot of weak trees in the hills especially and the winds were so intense. >> check your trees, if they're leaning, have an expert look at them to make sure they're healthy. it's been a long frustrating wait for help for people without power. a spokesperson told us there's still more than a thousand people in the north and east bay without power. last night people living in oakland power could be restored sometime this morning. these winds are hindering

efforts to put out a fire in east bay. it's burning to 2500 acres in sonoma county. evacuation was ordered yesterday morning. it's damaged a geothermal power plant. the other is in the silverado fire. it's burned 300 acres and is 70% contained. this morning that fire began during thursday night's windstorm. it evacuated four homes in the area. the cause from the cape fire is unknown, they think a downed power line may have sparked the silverado fire. police are searching for a man who stabbed a woman in a hotel. it happened in the embassy suites hotel h she was stabbed several times. she is expected to survive. police think the actual crime

scene was further away. >> we thought it was in a room on a ninth floor. there was evidence there that there was some sort of violent disturbance. >> the woman was the only person registered to the room. they do not believe it was a random attack. they have not released information or a possible motive and no arrests have been made so far. be prepared for traffic in the peninsula. if you're planning to go there today, there will be a kick off in stanford. the cardinals are looking for and rebound. stanford is heavy favorites against cal. the bears have the worst record. they lost to colorado last week in boulder. >> we're kind of in two different places, so, we don't have a lot to lose so we'll play as well as we can saturday and see if we can't pull an

upset. >> sold out crowd kick office, it's at 1:00. a little help to the st. anthony foundation. the company is donated 100 turkeys this morning. they'll be dropped off by a safe way foods truck. it's starting the donation drive this morning to help it reach its goal of 1,000 turkeys. they're reporting arrest shortage this year in turkey donations as well as an increase of the number of people in need. the oakland police department will be giving turkeys to family in need. it's one of many holiday celebrations and events to help underpriveleged youth. two fires in the north bay, not quite as windy as it's been in the last 48 hours, you mentioned the red flag warning

rosemary. yes, we'll start with a live look over the oakland he is two airy. we'll see the winds as a die down. in the afternoon, we'll give you a look, partly cloudy skies and at the moment it's clear. dry conditions over the north bay hill. this is lasting until 5:00 this afternoon. we've seen those winds for the last day and a half. it's really dried out the field once again and we're looking at gusty conditions continuing and this includes areas over where we're looking at that fire burning over parts of the north bay. you can see petaluma, saint hell even a, all in this section and it stretches over the hills. if you're thinking about a ride there later today, the winds generally, a lot lighter than

what we saw in fairfield, two miles per hour and where the winds have gone calm, it's been cold. we'll look at your temperatures in just a moment. i'll show you that comparison. concord reporting a light breeze, napa reporting 5 miles per hour. the wind has lightened up. we're seeing breezy conditions in the hills. it's calm in mountain view. as we get into your numbers here take a look fairfield 40 degrees, earlier i saw fairfield drop to 37 so the wind makes a difference, stirs the air, it prevents the cold air from sinking and settling in. chance are you're in the upper area, but where we have the wind, 52 in santa rosa and santa rosa still around 60 degrees, so the wind is having an impact depending on where

a fire in a building and firefighters are trying to figure out what started that fire. i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm mike, they gutted one building and the fire damaged another. it may have allowed the flames to spread. >> they got a call for this fire just before 4:00 this morning. the front porch you're looking at was engulfed in flame. the fire is completely out. they're packing up their equipment. there are investigators in backtalking to the property

owner. this was a four alarm fire with firefighters working to control it. this is in downtown burling game. there's a commercial office on the ground floor. they're on vision -- the resident was on vacation during this fire. there was intense moments when they tried to find anyone trapped in the building. there was no one. there were other challenges in getting this fire under control. >> on this particular case it did spread to another building and any time we have that with buildings, wood structures and downtown area, we want to make sure that we protect that because the business vitality and what we do here in downtown burlingame is very important. >> no one was hurt but the building is badly damaged. the inside is completely burned

out. the heat and the flames from this fire did spread and did manage to damage the building next door. there are trees in the middle, the names did not spread to any very manytation around here. investigators are trying to figure out what may have caused this fire here. they're talking to the property owner, they're checking on the utilities and trying to see if this fire may have been electrical in nature. the fire marshal at this point has no reason to believe this fire was suspicious. . here's a look at some of the top stories we're following for you this morning. one man is dead following a three vehicle crash. police say a corvette rearended a van that was stalled in the freeway. the man inside that corvette walked out to try to direct traffic and that's when this man was hit and killed by a third car. neighbors in the bay area

are clearing out downed trees. there are still a thousand people in the north and east bay without power this morning. be prepared for a lot of traffic if you're headed to the big game today. the two teams are going to matchup for the 116th time. the bears have the worst record in the pack 12 and the cardinals have 8 wins. they've traced the cause of the systemwide shutdown due to problems of the computer network servers p passengers were forced to wait for trains or wait for other transportation. they installed the upgrade on thursday, but a glitch caused the computer system to go off line late that night into friday morning. bart's labor union says they're considering legal action. they're through the contract but without the provision they

the front teeth were broken and his wallet and cellphone were stolen. >> there are gangs that do this regularly. they know there are easy marks, they have a phone and they have something. >> the suspects were arrested within minutes. they're facing felony charges including assault robbery and aggravated mayhem. >> a memorial was held for this woman who was shot and killed by a deputy. this took place outside her home in santa clara county. the deputy was cornered and the woman came at him with a knife. her husband doesn't say he doesn't believe it. >> she has ms, she could barely move. >> the sheriff's department sent us this picture of the

knife and identified the deputy who fired the shot. the entire incident lasted 44 seconds. >> violence broke out against police in north carolina after a teenager died in police custody. people marched outside for this 17-year-old jesus. witnesses say demonstrates say they shattered windows of a police building and a squad car. >> we want answers, we want the truth. they turned it into a fiasco. >> police can't comment about the case, but it's an ongoing investigation. what officers did say though they arrested the teen fortress passing and just arrived at the police station parking lot when he allegedly shot and killed himself. protests say lopez was shot

and killed while walking down the street with a toy rifle. 60 protestors demand that the deputy be charged with murder. they plan to protest at the re- election fundraiser for the so, gnome district attorney. in september a jury convicted. in aso of murdering four women in northern california between 1977 and 1994. yesterday the judge called him an evil and disturbed man as he issued that sentence. outside the courtroom family and friends of victims said they were relieved. >> i'm glad he has lost everything. i'm glad he did. so, did we. naso turns 80 in january, and if executed he will be the oldest person put to death in california. the state hasten forced the death penalty after a judge

gusts are 35 miles per hour. all the rain we received tuesday into wednesday, well, not really beneficially at this point because those wind are have dried us out. they've been blowing since thursday and are continuing at this hour. until this afternoon, national weather service has issued this red flag warning. 30 to 45 miles per hour gusts although i've seen the winds lighten up around here. the winds are 13 miles per hour in napa, 7 santa rosa, we have a light breeze continuing but not as bad as we've seen recently. i was tracking some of the temperatures in correlation to our winds. in santa rosa where we have the wind blowing it's 35 it degrees. in fairfield, it's 40 degrees. it's making a difference,

right. 49 in oakland right now. 53 in san francisco, and half moon bay, temperatures in walnut creek 38 degrees where it's calm. definitely something of an impact. we've got along the peninsula, 37, and 46 in belmont. as we get into the second half of the day, temperatures in the 60, around the area. i'll have a look at the afternoon highs in a moment. here's the system that brought rain to our area, brought rain to southern california now beginning to push off to the east. you can see plenty of rain to the east. that system is playing a part in those winds. as the ridge of high pressure pulls in the system begins to pull out, we're caught in between. it's nature's way trying to balance out things. the ridge takes hold of the weekend. for this afternoon, anywhere from ten to 15 miles per hour some of the breezier locations,

about 5:00 this afternoon, the winds will be let youing up over the hills as well. again widespread 60s, mid 60 san francisco, 6236 freemont, 68 for morgan hill. the extent the forecast in the weekend, you could wake up with patchy frost, the winds will go away and we're expected to be cooler as we get into monday, temperature slightly warmer for this afternoon and changes are coming. increasing clouds on tuesday and a chance for rain on wednesday. i'll have a look at your saturday lunchtime numbers coming up. >> they're looking to become bowl eligible but, but the 52 points against navy is not enough. carl runs fan grabs the ball and scores. overtime here we come. they score on the two possessions. san jose blanked on the third and they can't stop navy.

>> that flooding happened after a water main break. winter has come a month early for southeastern colorado. a half foot of snow has fallen across parts of pueblo. that city has seen about 6 inches of snow. the real winter is called south fork which is located in the rio grande national forest they've seen 14 inches of snow. mother nature could ruin travel plans for thanksgiving. it's going to the eastern part of the u.s. the system could cause massive flight delays throughout the northeast on wednesday. that would have a ripple effect all the way to the bay area. 2.5million meshes plan to fly

on this wednesday. they're expecting a steady stream of passengers leading up to and after the thanksgiving holiday. the day before thanksgiving is always the busiest, but many passengers are adjusting their travel plans. >> we usually travel this early and come back a little early, trying to beat the rush. >> the trick is not to come back a weekend after thanksgiving. just maybe come back on a monday or a tuesday. >> 120,000 are expect to pass through sfo the sunday after thanksgiving. the airport parking lots are at capacity. the airport says allow extra time if you're traveling yourself. a deal for travellers this holiday season, from thanksgiving through december 19th. they can get three days up to free parking if they fly

tuesday through thursday. >> tsla motors is confident that the car will be cleared for racing car fires. they've had two recent battery fires, they were extreme cases and not the norm. batteries caught fire after they hit large metal objects in the road. he does not expect a recall. online shopping may be caused in california it causes a loss of $2 billion. they are going to force collecting tax, but it's still in the house for consideration. >> they cannot compete with the online retailers. back in 2011, california passed a state law that

earlier this week. we have a red flag warning. let's get to rosemary on that. good morning to you rosemary. the winds have calmed in most areas. they are in the hills as well as the valleys. we have a red flag warning for dry gusty conditions. mostly sunny for the morning and winds will lighten up for the afternoon. in the extended forecast rain coming back to the bay area. i'll have a look at the futurecast morning. i'll line up the temperatures for you coming up. we begin this hour from the news from the peninsula. dozens of firefighters battled a fire that was tough to put out. ali is live at the scene where they're mopping up. >> reporter: it was challenging for firefighters this morning. it's out, but this building where the fire originated doesn't have fire sprinklers. at that he is an older

building, it isn't required to have sprinklers. that's why the fire spread from this building to the building next door. it's a four-alarm fire. 7 firefighters were working to control it. it was on donnolly avenue. it was in a residence on the second nor and a commercial building on the ground floor. the apartment resident is actually on vacation so he wasn't here or hurt. firefighters were scrambling to try to figure out if anyone may have been trapped in the building. this fire broke out before 4:00 this morning. it was an owner of a business, a bakery called in to report the fire at 911 this morning. >> we thought it was a small fire in one room. we first thought by the time we

called and came back the whole roof was on fire. >> reporter: he was surprised how quickly the flames spread. you can see it still standing, but the inside is completely burned out. the heat and the flames damaged another building next door. right now investigators are still going through the building. they got the fire marshal out here talking to the property owner. they're talking about what the utilities were like and the electrical situation was like, they're trying to figure out what caused this fire. the fire marshal does not believe that it was suspicious. . new this morning, one man was killed following a vehicle crash -- near freemont. the van was then struck by a corvette. one of the people inside the corvette walked out to direct traffic. that's when a third car came by hitting him and killing him. the stretch of 680 was closed for two hours overnight.

we got an update on another deadly crash. it shut down a section of highway 81 in san mateo county. the deadly one car accident happened at 3:30 this morning. two deaths happened from wind storms. it knocked down a power line on austin street and electrocuted a man. an hour later a man died trying to avoid debris in the road. and a woman died fell on a tree landed on a parked car she was sitting in. many people are dealing with the cleanup from this wind storms. wood chippers are cleaning up dozens of debris caused by

trees and limbs. fortunately, no one was hurt. >> i thought there was an earthquake. >> there are a lot of weak trees up on the hills and the winds were so intense. >> it's a reminder to check your own trees. if they're leaning and older, have an expert look at them to see if they're still healthy. it's been a long and frustrating wait for help. a spokesperson told me there are still a thousand people until the north and east bay areas. power could be restored sometime this morning. the winds are hindering efforts to extinguish two fires. one is the mccabe fire. it's burning near the guysers in sonoma county. there's 10% containment. so far it has damaged a

geothermal power plant. the other wildfire is the silverado fire in the soda canyon of napa county. it's 70% contained this morning. the fire began during thursday night's windstorm. evacuation from the homes were lifted yesterday afternoon, while the cause of the mccabe fire is unknown, they think a downed power line may have sparked the silverado fire. a woman was seriously stabbed inside a hotel. it happened in the embassy suites hotel. she was stabbed several times but she's expected to survive. she was found by another guest on the third floor. they think that the actual crime scene was 6 floors away. >> we determined that the crime scene was a room on the ninth floor. we found evidence there that indicated there was a violent disturbance.

>> the woman was the only person registered to the room. they do not believe it was a random attack. no arrests have been made. be prepared for some traffic. if you're planning to head to the big game today. cal and stanford will kick off for the 116th time at stanford. they're hooking at the loss, today could be a different story as stanford is heavy favorites against cal. the bears have the worst record right now? >> we're in two different places. so, we don't have a lot to lose. we'll play as well as we can on saturday. we have nothing to lose. >> it's not a bad morning, we are actually worried about the red flag warning. on saturday, you said it would clear up and we would have a

whole different scene by the weekend, you were right. it's hard to imagine at the time. >> right such a transition taking place over the last few days. the winds are blowing strong in our hills. the national weather service decided to issue that red flag warning. let's look over the ktvu oakland estuary. we have mostly sunny skies and temperatures not too bad. the winds kept the numbers up in most cases. we are cool in some areas. let's touch on these fires burning over the parts of the north bay. it's critically dry out there. the win gusts in some of those hills are cranking to 35 miles per hour this morning. the wind will be dying down in the second half of the afternoon. the red flag warning expires about 5:00 this afternoon it's fairly widespread not only for the hills, but for the valley locations. we're looking at that for most

of your saturday. that to be aware of. the rest of us, where we reside, the wind have relaxed and we're looking at 6 miles per hour in oakland, 7 in napa. and where the winds calm down early on, we're looking at chillier temperatures, 42 in fairfield, 40 degrees in walnut creek and upper 40s in nevada and napa. most of the areas cool, but i have to point to santa rosa, it's warmer outside your door with the winds. santa rosa was checking at 60 miles per hour. half moon bay 55, if we switch to the east where the winds are light, we have low 40s around walnut creek, 40 degrees san ramon and some of the places sunk to the upper 30s this morning. so the wind helps to stir that

cold air and prevents it from settling to the bottom and keeps the temperatures up. 66 for the afternoon in berkeley today. 66 in hayward, 55 in san francisco, with the winds continuing to die down. the red flag in place until 5:00. 66 san jose, mid-60s for santa cruz. let's get into the forecast for the bay area weekend always in view as the winds continue to die down. our overnight lows will be chillier as we get going tomorrow morning. some areas right about freezing, by the afternoon we're bouncing back into the mid to upper 60s, slightly warmer on monday, increasing clouds on tuesday and that chance for rain coming in on wednesday and it looks like it's going to stick around for thanksgiving day. i'm going to show you that futurecast model and i'll have it coming up just a bit. >> san francisco is bringing holiday help to st. anthony's. the company is donating 100

. developing news in the peninsula, an early morning fire guts one building and damages another. the search begins for the cause. welcome to mornings on 2, i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike and a business and a home inside a building gone and wiped out by a fire. investigators are now looking for what may have sparked this

four alarm blaze. >> reporter: the firefighters have been talking with the property owners all morning long. at this point investigators don't know how this fire started they believe it started in the first floor area of the building that you're looking at right now. this looks like a single family home, but it's a mixed commercial and residential building on donnolly avenue near downtown burlingame. firefighters come and go and they spray fire on the building, that's why you can see it dripping right now. the owner of a bakery across the street called to report this fire that broke out just before 4:00 this morning. then they stop to take this picture after he called 911. the flames completely engulfed the porch in a matter of minutes. he was surprised and concerned about how quickly the fire spread. >> we just thought it was a small fire in one room when we first thought, by the time i called and came back, the whole

roof is on fire. >> now, again, the building looks like a single family home, it has an apartment residence on the first floor and a commercial residence on the ground floor, no one was hurt and no one was home when the fire started. one person lives in the apartment upstairs on vacation, wasn't around when the fire broke out. they were concerned when someone had to go in and rescue someone. that wasn't the case. the one resident who lived in this building was on vacation at the time. this was a four alarm fire. they faced challenges putting it out. it's an older building that dates back to the early 1900s. as we saw from that picture as we showed you, it was pretty intense. they were focussed on making sure it did not spread to other parts of the building in the burlingame area. the fire marshal tells me he has no reason to believe that

the fire was intentionally set. it doesn't look suspicious at this point. a violent hate crime was caught on camera. two suspects attacked a 22-year- old man who was standing outside of a bed and breakfast. the victim's front teeth were broken and his wallet and cellphone stolen. >> there are gangs that do this. people are an easy mark, they have something, they have a phone, they know we have something. >> the suspects were arrested in minutes, and they are facing charges of assault, aggravated robbery and mayhem. they're calling for justice for their son. an african american student said his head was put in a

bicycle lock and yelled racial insults. >> it's bigger than just race. >> it was one unfriendly to any nonchristian white. the alleged victim's family issued a statement that it was deeply disturbed by these behaviors and that measures will be taken to insure that justice will prevail. the defendants are due in court in january. here's a suspect of robberies. he is called the cotton ball bandit. it has a pompom on the top. he wears that during each

robbery. he's offered a $2500 reward leading to his arrest and conviction. they've traced a cause to the systemwide shutdown. the service was halted for hours yesterday morning. they were forced to wait for trains or other information. they installed that upgrade on thursday, but the glitch caused the computer system to go ovulate night into early morning. the two labor ruinons are considering -- unions are considering legal actions over a provision. the provision would have granted workers six weeks of paid family leave. they called it unprecedented and illegitimate. there's been problems from

deaths of two workers and the two strikes and many riders are frustrated with the problems. they said they can bounce back by reaching out to passengers. >> we have got to not maker reports and communicate can with the public to overcome what's going on now. >> they're driving vehicles instead of taking bart and some say their circumstances leave them no choice, but to ride bart. >> there are more service disruptions, at 9:00 this morning there will be a 30 minute delay among arunda and millbury. both disruptions are caused by track maintenance. the federal government is following the footsteps of california. they are allowing an extra week. the aim is to have

to serve drinks to anyone under 25 in the vehicle. he's trying to keep out rowdy late night crowds, neighbors have been complaining about that noise for months. >> there are people, garbage, broken point bottles of liquor, and pimping on our door. >> a bar restaurant can be find for anyone including age. the owner says a lot of bars in the city informally try to keep people 21 out but they don't announce it. they're trying to keep people in a swanky hotel room. a woman was a guest reported her wallet missing. joel turned it in and he found it in a trash can while looking for something to eat. that's getting food and room

alarm fire on the peninsula. the challenges they faced in getting the flames under control. >> this morning, still no power for some people around the bay area. the latest on the outages caused by high winds knocking over trees and power lines. >> and the recent storm brought snow to the sierras. resorts that are open today and when the rest will follow suit. . good morning, everyone. welcome to mornings on 2, saturday, november 23rd. i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. it's been pretty windy the last couple of days. lot of changing weather. let's check in with rosemary on what we can expect today and through the wind. >> good morning. the finds finally dying out, not everywhere. still breezy for some out there. red flag this morning for the north bay hills. i'll bring you an update, but for the rest of us, mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the 60s for your afternoon. in the extended forecast, rain

comes back to the bay area. i'll have a look at temperatures for today, coming up. . new this morning, investigators are right now trying to figure out what caused a fire that gutted one building and damaged another. ktvu's allie rasmus is live in burlingame to explain why firefighters are saying the age of that first building may have allowed those flames to spread. allie? >> reporter: well, this is the building where the fire started, right behind us. this is on donnelly avenue in downtown burlingame. this building was built in the early 1900s and because it's so old, it doesn't have a sprinkler system. it actually isn't required to. the fire marshal tells me that's one of the reasons the flames spread so quickly, not just through this building, but extended across the driveway. you can see the damage to both structures. the owner of a bakery across the street from the building called to report the fire this morning just before 4:00. he took this photo right after he called 911. no one was in the building when the fire started, but the

business owners and firefighters were concerned about the flames spreading to homes and businesses in the area, because the fire was moving very quickly. >> really fast. really fast. it went from just a glow to 20- foot flames in less than 5 minutes. >> in this particular case it, did spread to another building, and any time we have that with unsprinklerred buildings, wood structures, and with our downtown area, we want to make sure that we protect that the business vitality in downtown burlingame is very important. >> reporter: this building looks like a single-family home, but it actually has an apartment residents on the top floor and an office on the main floor. and the building next door also has an office. there's no tenant or residents living in that building. but the apartment resident on the top floor was on vacation when this fire happened, so no one was home when the fire broke out. however, the fire did have an impact not only on the electrical system on this property, but on the electrical system on the street.

there are about 16 businesses in the downtown burlingame area that are without power. back out here live, you can see someone from the city of burlingame, going through and cleaning up some of the mess here. we don't have word on what the cause of this fire is. fire marshals think it started on the, in the main living room area, the main area of that first floor here, and the fire marshal says they are trying to figure out what started this fire. but at this point, he does not suspect it was intentionally set and the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature. live in burlingame, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. one man was killed following a three-vehicle crash on interstate 680 near fremont. a van stalled on the freeway between vargas and sheridan roads just before 1:00 this morning. chp says the van was then struck by a corvette. one of the people inside the corvette walked out to direct traffic, but that's when a third car, a white corolla came by, hitting and killing him. that stretch of roadway was closed for two hours overnight.

just about 30 minutes ago, chp reopened both directions of highway 1 in the area of montara in san mateo county. the cause for the closure was a deadly single-car crash at the tunnel at devil's slide. it happened about 3:30 this morning. milpitas police are searching for the person who stabbed and seriously injured a woman inside a hotel. it happened just before 5:30 last night at the embassy suites hotel. police say the 30-year-old woman was stabbed several times, but is expected to survive. she was found by another guest on the third floor. but police think the actual crime scene was six floors away. >> we located the crime scene in a room on the ninth floor. we found evidence of a violent disturbance. >> the woman was the only person registered to the room, but police do not believe this was a random attack. they have not released information on a possible motive. so far, no arrests have been made. a website that allows people to see exactly where surveillance cameras are in their neighborhood is now

mapping locations in the east bay. video surveillance.com's community cam project recently expanded to oakland. the project debuted in san francisco and several other cities. the service sex anding as the city of oakland moves forward with a controversial plan for a surveillance center. but the cameras mapped on the website are not part of the city's plan. at least three deaths are now being blamed on the recent storms across the west coast. two of them happened in oakland. just after 8:00 thursday night, strong winds knocked down a power line on austin street near foot hill boulevard and electrocuted a man. less than an hour later, another man died trying to avoid debris in the road near skyline boulevard and brandy rock way. in yuba county, a 52-year-old woman died when part of a tree fell on the parked car she was sitting in. hundreds of people are still without power this morning, and many bay area neighborhoods are still dealing with the cleanup from the recent wind storm. yesterday, crews in oakland used wood chippers to clean up dozens of large trees and limbs knocked down by those winds. in the oakland hills, an 80-

foot tree crashed into one home. luckily, no one was home. >> i heard a thunk and i thought there had been an earthquake. >> i think there are a lot of weak trees, up in the hills especially. the winds were so intense. >> arborists say the wind storm is a reminder to check your own trees. if they are leaning and older, have an expert look at them to make sure they still are healthy. for neighborhoods still without power from the wind storm, it has been a long, frustrating wait for help. downed trees knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers. this morning, a pg&e spokesperson told us there are still more than 1000 customers in the north and east bay without power. last night, people living near rio vista and piedmont avenues in oakland were told power could be restored by sometime this morning. happening now, we have just received updated information about two wind-lit fires in the north bay. the largest is the mccave fire. you can see this photo from the press democrat, which shows the flames. calfire has revised the size of the fire from 2500 acres last

night down to 2000 this morning. this is all burning near the geysers in sonoma county. it has damaged a geo thermal power plant. the other fire is in the soto cameron area of napa valley, 70% contained this morning. the silverado fire started thurg thursday night's wind storm. evacuations were lifted last night. while the cause of the mccabe fire is unknown, investigators believe a downed power line may have sparked the silverado fire. . starting out with the flag blowing in san francisco, you can see the winds turning light in most areas. but we again are continuing to see them blow strong over our hills and we are talking about the north bay hills and the valley locations. claudine, talking about the fires in and over parts of the north bay. it is going to be really dry,

critically dry for today, and the winds are really gusting in some areas. 35 miles per hour up atop of the hills, maybe even seeing them crank to 50 at times. very gusty, dry offshore winds over parts of the north bay. i was talking to mike and claudine earlier. calfire reporting a very small fire in lake county as well, in the clear lake oaks area. but looks like it's only about 20 acres. but again, it's going to be very breezy. that's where we continue with the red flag warning. an advisory today until 5:00 this afternoon, stretching from areas like mount tam, mill valley, all the way into parts of the north bay. and it's over these hills, right around hawk eye where i'm seeing these gusts to about 50 miles per hour. now, right now, reporting 20, but over the course of the morning, they have fluctuated quite a bit. winds are going to continue in our hills. the rest of us, dealing with just a light breeze in most areas at this point. napa reporting 7. santa rosa reporting 8. concord, 6. notice it's a variable wind, 14 miles per hour in fairfield, the

strongest i've seen all morning long. fairfield has been relatively calm this morning. temperatures right now holding in the upper 40s to upper 50s. 57 santa rosa. 55 san francisco. 54 in oakland. 48 in fairfield. now, in the overnight hours, the possibility of those winds really dying out, would create very cold temperatures. we really don't see that because the winds kept stirring the cold air and never really settled in. most areas, relatively mild, although where it was calm, it was cold earlier this morning. beginning to turn around, though. into the 60s for afternoon. 66 in berkeley. 65 san francisco. if you're going outdoors in san jose today, 66 expected for you. 68 in morgan hill. in the extended forecast, with your bay area weekend always in view, the red flag warning for the north bay hills and valley lasting until 5:00 this afternoon. temperatures on the mild side. winds will continue to diminish tomorrow morning, without the winds, patchy frost a possibility and colder numbers

expected. mostly sunny on monday. temperatures warming slightly and then we see a turnaround by tuesday. increasing clouds and the possibility of rain coming our way by midweek, lasting into thanksgiving. i'm going to line up the future cast model and we'll run you through, coming up. well, today, two lake tahoe ski resorts are opening for the season. heavenly and northstar plan to begin limited operations. lesson was scheduled to open yesterday, but high winds prompted the resort to postpone the opening. despite the windy weather, boreal ski resort stayed hope. mount rose and squaw valley plan to open wednesday. ski resorts in southern  california, including big bear remain closed. they are hoping for more snow to fall and colder temperatures. the resorts are testing snow- making systems. if the temperatures continue to drop, they will start running them full-time. the accident that led to terminals being evacuated at lax and people running from what they described were gunshots. >> and he made headlines after being stolen from the san francisco zoo.

two terminals had to be evacuated. police say they were called around 7:30 last night about possible shots fired at terminal 5. when they arrived, they discovered the sound -- that the sound of what some thought were gunshots was actually a car crash. there you see it there. police say they then received a call about a man with a weapon in terminal 4, but after searching, they say no gunman was found. all of this comes three weeks after the deadly shooting that killed a tsa agent at lax. an autopsy report now shows that the tsa agent killed at lax was hit 12 times. the coroner says he found more than 40 bullet fragments in the body of tsa officer geraldo hernandez. he was pronounced dead 45 minutes after arriving at the hospital, nearly two hours after the shooting. investigation into delays in getting him medical care is still under way. president obama reiterated the need for bipartisanship in

this morning's address. >> think about what we could do if a reckless few didn't hold the economy hostage every few months or waste time on dozens of votes to repeal the affordable care act rather than try to help us fix it. [ applause ] >> the president says the economy is continuing to grow, with another 200,000 americans returning to work last month. he adds reviving the american auto industry and fixing a broken healthcare system are key to keeping the economy moving forward. the president is going to head out west tomorrow. he'll fly to seattle for two democratic fund raisers, one of this will feature nancy pelosi. the president is then going to come over to san francisco for an immigration event and a fund- raiser. political analysts say there might be some donor fatigue happening now. ticket prices to a luncheon at the sf jazz center have been reduced by 50%. the state released two months worth of jobless numbers, after a delay last month because of government shutdown. california's unemployment rate fell to 8.7% in september and

was unchanged in october. the state lost 2900 jobs in september. that ended 27 consecutive months of growth, but bounced back in october, adding almost 40,000 jobs. the bay area had some of the lowest unemployment rates in the state. jobless rates in all nine bay area counties fell below the state average. solano county had the highest in the region with 7.7%. marin county, the lowest had 4.8%. about 60 employees at the pixar animation studios in emeryville have been laid off. a spokesperson from the studio says the cutbacks were due to a delay in the upcoming film "the good dinosaur." the movie has been pushed back to 2015 while the studio searches for a new director. reports indicate the job cuts affect less than 5% of the company's 1200 employees. animal lovers are mourning the death of one of the san francisco zoo's most famous monkies. zoo officials saban in a sam passed away on thursday from heart disease. he was 19 years old. now, back in 2011, the squirrel monkey made headlines after he

was kidnapped from his cage. news of the monkey missing went worldwide. and a $5000 reward was offered for his safe return. well, it took a couple of days, but sam was found about a mile away and brought back. the person responsible for taking him has never been found. the sea lion who disrupted traffic into the san geronimo valley has been returned to the sea. the seal was spotted away from a beach. since then, he had been undergoing rehab at the marine mammal center. on thursday, as he was being transported back to the coast, he escaped his cage and jumped out of the back of a moving truck. luckily, he was okay and cleared for release yesterday. >> lou reid, getting antsy! get me out of this thing, back to the water! he was en route, just didn't know. >> he wasn't very patient. first, he saved san francisco. now he is appearing in movie trailers. how batkid is once again following in his hero's footsteps. at farmers, we make you smarter about insurance.

. a san francisco company is bringing holiday help to st. anthony's foundation, in response to a turkey shortage at the charity. 100 turkeys were donated this morning by a real estate investment firm. the turkeys will be dropped off by a safeway delivery truck. it hopes to reach its goal of 1000 turkeys, just one of several charities and food banks supporting the shortage this year in turkey donations, as well as an increase in the number of people in need. today, turkeys will be given away from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the 9800 block of bancroft avenue. the holiday tradition is one of many programs by oakland's pal

embarcadero center last night. the tradition continues, as crowds of people showed up to watch the annual lighting ceremony and see those fireworks go. there was also a carnival for children and a disney ice skating show at justin herman plaza. the embarcadero rights and the skating rink at justin herman plaza will be up and running through january 5th. macy's is unveiling its holiday display in the windows of its flagship store in new york. the displays are fully equipped with moving christmas trees, snow angels and reindeers. for the first time ever, people outside can actually interact with the displays. snow flurries can be thrown around by people moving their arms. as you saw, the displays will remain up through the holidays. allegations of a hate crime at san jose state. reaction to the victim's family, and what the suspects are accused of doing. >> and a new feature from san francisco-based pinterest, and it could make your favorite spots a lot easier to find.

. new this morning, dozens of firefighters called to the scene of an early morning fire, and now the investigation under way into how it all started. welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm mike mibach. it was a building dating back to the early 1900s that caught fire in burlingame early this morning. ktvu's allie rasmus, live this morning outside the building, where both a business and a home are damaged. >> reporter: that's right.

they are both in this building behind us, the building where the fire started just before 4:00 this morning. this is on donnelly avenue, close to the downtown burlingame area. now, just in the last five minutes, there were crews here with the city of burlingame that were pumping out water from the basement of this home. they have just finished up that work and a little later on this morning, investigators are going to be coming back into the home, going through the basement, trying to figure out what caused this fire. in the meantime, though, there are some pg&e crews out here working to restore electricity to these homes in the area and about 16 businesses on this street that are without power because of this fire. now, the damage here is very visible. the flames spread from this home to the building next door. i shouldn't call them homes, because while there is an apartment residents on the top floor, the bottom floor on this building and the building next to it are strictly office, office space. so earlier this morning, though, a bakery owner across the street called 911 to report this fire. no one was in the building when

the fire started, but business owners and firefighters were concerned about the fire spreading to homes and businesses in the area because the flames were moving very quickly and the bakery owner took this picture that he shared with us. he said he was very surprised how fast the flames were moving. >> very surprised. it was -- we just thought it was small fire in one room when we first saw t by the time i called and came back, the whole roof was on fire. >> reporter: now, again, the building looks like a single- family home, but it actually has an apartment on the top floor, an office on the main floor. it appears the fire started on that main floor. and the apartment resident who lives here is on vacation. no one was at home when the fire started and no one was hurt and the fire marshal says that he is going to be coming back out here claire. meantime, they have red-tagged the building, so no one is allowed to go back into the building. they are still trying to figure out what caused this fire. investigators will be coming back here a little later on this afternoon. but at this point, the fire marshal says he does not

believe the fire is suspicious and he does not believe the fire was intentionally set. live in burlingame, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. police in oakland are looking for the gunman involved in a deadly shooting. it happened on 78th avenue near international around 6:00 this morning. when police arrived, they say the man was found in his twenties on the ground. he been shot and died at the scene. anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call police. family and friends of a san jose woman shot and killed by a santa clara county sheriffs deputy held a memorial for her last night. the vigil for 61-year-old midria took place last night. the deputy was cornered and fired on the woman when she came at the deputy with a knife last saturday morning, according to the police department. but her husband says he doesn't think that's what happened. >> i don't believe that, because she's only, like 5 feet tall. she's 61. she has ms. she could barely move. >> the sheriff's department

identified the deputy who fired the shot as jennifer gilan. violence broke out during a protest against police in north carolina after a teenager died in police custody. about 300 people marched outside the durham police headquarters for 17-year-old jesus juarat. he died in the back of a police car wednesday morning. demonstrators shattered the windows of the police building and a squad car last night. >> we came in demanding answers. we want them to tell the truth. it turned into a whole fiasco. >> police say they can't comment on the case because it is an ongoing investigation. what officers will say, however, is that they did arrest the teen for trespassing and had just arrived at the station parking lot when he allegedly shot and killed himself. in santa rosa, protests continue for 13-year-old andy lopez. police say lopez was shot and killed october 22 by a sonoma county sheriffs deputy while walking down the street holding

an air soft rifle that resembled a real rifle. yesterday, 60 protesters demanded the deputy be charged with murder. they also say they plan to protest at the december 3rd re- election fund-raiser for the sonoma county district attorney. bart says it has traced the cause of a system-wide shutdown to problems upgrading a computer network server. service was halted for hours early yesterday morning. passengers were forced to wait for trains or find some other mode of transportation. bart says workers installed the upgrade on thursday, but a glitch caused the central computer system to go offline late that night into friday morning. bart's two largest labor unions say they are considering legal action regarding a dispute over their tentative agreement the bart board has approved the contract, but without the provision they say was accidentally included. the provision would have granted union workers six weeks of paid family leave. the two unions called the board's actions unprecedented and ill legitimate. the unions promise they will remain on the job until they decide their next move.

this morning, bart is reporting more service disruptions. these are scheduled. there is a 30-minute delay along the orrin orinda- pittsburg line, caused by track maintenance. the federal government is following the footsteps of california, allowing people an extra week to apply for healthcare insurance. the board of covered california moved the deadline from december 15th to december 23rd. the gain is to help about 900,000 californians losing their healthcare policy because their plans don't conform with the affordable care act. the board also extended the deadline for paying for new policies from december 26th to january 5th. well, the san francisco- based website pinterest is now allowing users to pin locations with their photos. that means when you post a picture of a location you like, such as a beach, hotel, store orest rant, you can also now show where it's located. pinterest says that will let people make maps for friends visiting other places or show

easterly wind at 14 miles per hour. again, some of the strongest i've seen so far this morning. fairfield was relatively calm earlier this morning and because of it, your temperatures really tanked in the overnight hours. now we're beginning to rebound. we're calm at mountain view, calm in san jose. heyward reporting a southwesterly breeze at 3 miles per hour. backing this up a little bit, we continue to track this system. this is the system that actually brought us some rain tuesday into wednesday. you can see now over southern california, bringing plenty of rain to the southern edge of nevada there, and into arizona, and los angeles also picking up a few scattered showers. we are still catching just the very northern edge of this. look, as i move in a little bit closer, attempting to scoot in just a little bit. but areas like santa cruz and monterey, even catching a few high clouds out of this earlier this morning. but we will be mostly clear for today. this ridge of high pressure, again, is building in and as it does, that low pressure is moving out and the winds are finally beginning to relax. 57 degrees right now in santa rosa. san francisco, 57 for you

state student who says he was the victim of a hate crime is now calling for justice for their son. an african american student claims a group of white students yelled racial taunts and put his head in a u-shaped bicycle lock. >> it's a very hateful environment. >> bigger than just race, then? >> yes. i think it was one that was unfriendly to any non-christian white. >> the alleged victim's family issued a statement t says in part it was deeply disturbed by the horrific behave yours and hoped necessary measures will be taken to ensure justice will prevail. one of the defendants has hired an attorney who did not respond to our requests for interview. at least three of the defendants are due in court in january. two bay area men are facing charges after police say a violent hate crime was caught on camera. the attack happened on november

12th. prosecutors say the two suspects attacked a 23-year-old man standing outside of a bed & breakfast in san francisco's castro district. the victim's front teeth were broken, his wallet and cell phone stolen. >> gangs do this regularly, make people an easy mark. they know got some money, a phone, and know we have something. >> the suspects were arrested within minutes. they now face felony charges including assault, robbery, and aggravated mayhem. convicted serial killer joseph naso has been sentenced to death by a judge in marin county. in september, a jury convicted naso of murdering four women in northern california between 1977 and 1994. yesterday, the judge called naso, quote, an evil and disturbed man, as he issued the sentence. outside the courtroom, family and friends of the victims say they were relieved. >> i'm glad that he has lost everything. he said he lost everything. i'm glad he did.

. 9:44 on the clock. recapping top stories, one man is dead following a three- vehicle crash on interstate 680 near fremont. a corvette rear ended a van that was stalled on the freeway between vargas and sheridan roads. a man inside the corvette walked out to try to direct traffic and that's when chp says he was hit and killed by a third vehicle. investigators say they are now looking into what sparked a fire in burlingame that destroyed one building and damaged another next door. authorities do not think the fire is suspicious. there was a business and a residential unit inside that one building. the building did not have sprinklers because it was built in the early 1900s. be prepared for a lot of traffic in the peninsula if you're heading to the cal and stanford game today. the two teams will go at it for the 116th time. today's matchup may not be much of a contest, according to stanford fans. right now, the bears have the

worst record in the pac-12, while stanford has eight wins. kickoff set for 1:00. san jose state's spartans looking to become bowl eligible. the 52 points they scored against navy last night, just not enough. last play, fourth quarter, spartans needed the touchdown. kyle nunn runs the fake, goes up, grabs the ball and scores. so overtime, we good. each team scores on the first two possessions. san jose state blanked on the third, and they can't stop the navy and its option. keenan reynolds with the 25- yard score, his seventh rushing touchdown on the night. that's an ncaa record. navy wins 58-52. spartans take on a pretty good fresno state team next week. new this morning, 44 people have died in oil pipeline explosion in china. it happened in a coastal city, 300 miles north of shanghai. local news agencies report more than 130 people are being treated in hospitals. officials say crews were working on repairing a leak when the explosion happened. crews are now checking that pipeline for more possible leaks. another man is being honored on the 0th anniversary

of the assassination of jfk. jd tippett was working as a police officer in dallas when the president was shot. 35 minutes later, tippett was shot and killed by lee harvey oswald as he tried to get away. tippett is credited for slowing oswald down long enough for him to be caught. at a memorial yesterday, his family was given an american flag in his honor. well, the southwestern u.s. is bracing for another powerful storm today. the system is bringing rain, snow and wind to parts of southern california, arizona, and new mexico. with not enough time to dry out, several roadways are still flood. one man in tucson died when he was swept away by high water in a wash, and in san diego, flood waters trapped two men outside a marine corps recruiting center. >> you rescued them? >> yes. >> out of the window? >> out of the window. got the window down and got the shoulder out of the car. >> the flooding happened after heavy rain led to a water main break. everyone in the two vehicles were able to escape, including

a car with four marines. winter has come nearly a month early for southeastern colorado. reports show more than a half a foot of snow has fallen across parts of pueblo, creating very icy conditions along the roadways. meanwhile, in trinidad, a city south of pueblo, it has seen just about 6 inches of snow. but the real winner is the small town of south fork, located in the rio grande national forest. residents there have seen about 14 inches of snow. airports across the bay area are expecting a steady stream of passengers leading up to and after the thanksgiving holiday. yesterday, sfo reported its busiest travel day with 130,000 passengers. in past years, the airport says the day before thanksgiving was its busiest day. but a spokesperson says that's because many passengers are adjusting their travel plans. >> we usually travel this early and then come back a little early, try to beat the rush. >> the trick is not to come back the weekend after thanksgiving, just maybe come back on a monday or a tuesday.

>> 120,000 people are expected to pass through sfo the sunday after thanksgiving. many airport parking lots are already near capacity. if you have a flight scheduled this weekend, the airport says you should allow yourself, as always, some extra time. well, meantime, the oakland airport is offering a deal for travelers this holiday season from thanksgiving through december 19th, when travelers can get up to three days' free parking at the daily lot, if they fly tuesday through thursday. that will save about $66. online shopping may be causing california to lose $2 billion a year. that is because many online sellers don't collect state sales taxes. u.s. senate has passed a bill that allows states to force online stores to collect sales tax, but it is sitting right now in a house committee. a spokesperson from the international council of shopping centers says this is also hurting local stores. >> we've seen retailer after retail ergo out of business because they cannot compete with the online retailers. >> back in 2011, california

passed a state law that requires collecting online taxes. amazon cut a deal to comply with the law after a year-long delay. a new player is joining the team, campaigning to develop oakland's proposed coliseum city. the city hopes to build a new sport stadium and entertainment hub to replace the coliseum and arena. it could be oakland's best chance to keep the raiders in oakland. real estate giant colony capital is now part of the project and is taking the lead in trying to raise the millions of dollars needed for coliseum city. well, the warriors lost another key player during their game against the los angeles lakers. late in the third quarter, andre left the game after strange his left hamstring. ouch. that left the warriors without two key players. seth curry still sitting out because of a mild concussion. lakers went on to win. the golden state warriors will host a pregame food drive today. the team is asking fans to

donate five cans of food. fans can drop off donations in any of the bright red barrels located throughout the arena. all donations will be given to the alameda county food bank. they plan to build a new basketball arena for the sacramento kings, now one step closer to reality. the kings officially submitted an application to the city's planning department, outlining how it will develop the site for a new downtown arena. the outline shows how each level of the arena will be laid out. there are also plans to build restaurants, bars, a hotel, and a movie theater near the kings home court. the project is scheduled to be completed in september of 2016. 600,000 popular baby monitors are being recalled after the deaths of two beafnlts the angel carrico is recalling its movement and sound monitors. the cord from the sensor pad can be pulled right into the crib by the baby and strangle that baby. at least two infants have died from strangulation. if you have one of these monitors, you can contact the company for a repair kit.

a fran company is bringing holiday health to the area. the shorstein company has donated 100 turkeys this morning. the real estate investment firm says the turkeys will be dropped off by a safeway food trunk. st. anthony's started its curbside donation 30 minutes ago, trying to reach its goal of 1000 turkeys. it is one of several charities and food banks reporting a shortage in turkey donations, as well as an increase in the number of people in need. well, next week, president obama will continue the white house tradition of pardoning two thanksgiving turkeys. last year, the president pardoned cobbler and gobbler. but it turns out those pardoned

birds may not be so lucky after all. a new report says most turkeys die just a few months after being pardoned because they do have a short life span. hopefully we're hoping for a different outcome, when two turkeys from minnesota are pardoned on wednesday. a homeless man in georgia is spending thanksgiving in a very nice hotel room as a reward for his honesty. on november 7th, a woman who was a guest at the omni hotel reported her wallet missing. later that day, joel hartman turned it in, saying he found it in a trash can while looking for something to eat. impressed with his honesty, the hotel's manager is giving hartman a hotel room through the holiday, food from room service, and $500 cash. >> i look at something like that as an opportunity to do the right thing. >> hartman says he has been homeless for about a year and battles depression. he says this will be the best thanksgiving he has had in a long time. one of the first things he did with the money you saw there, he actually tipped the hotel
